The Village of Sciota was developed much later than the other villages in Chazy. The first settlers did not arrive until after the War of 1812. These first settlers were Joseph Ober and his son-in-law who arrived in 1819 from Massachusetts. Joseph Ober purchased a plot of land and began to clear the land for lumber and built three sawmills. Originally, the village was called Ober's Corners for Joseph Ober's role in starting the village.

In 1852 a railroad station was established in the village and was given the name "Sciota," and it was around this time that the village adopted the name "Sciota."

One significant company that called Sciota home was the Sciota Manufacturing Company. The company was founded by Nichols & Lynde of Plattsburgh in 1862 when they bought a manufacturing business from Asa Angell. Angell's son, Allen M. Angell, was the first superintendent of the factory and remained in that role until his death in 1868.

The company manufactured various pieces of furniture and other goods. They produced shingles, barrel leads, and chair parts which were all shipped away to be made into completed projects. The company also sawed logs and made lumber for locals as well as themselves. Beginning in 1867 the company began to produce their famed bedsteads, cribs, and cradles, producing up to 125 a day!

The village of Sciota had a significant impact on not only the Town of Chazy, but the entire North Country. The historical marker to commemorate the original hamlet of Sciota was erected by the Chazy Friends of the Chazy Public Library in 1985.
