About the event
You've heard about the Alice's costume club; now come through for our COSTUME SCHOOL, where we will provide more structured projects (including both materials and instruction!) for those interested in adding to their historic costuming skills and wardrobe. In May, we'll be decorating a fan!
Hand fans arrived in the West from Asia around the 15th century and by the 18th and early 19th had myriad functions in society, serving as everything from fashion accessories to communication tools to advertising opportunities to simple, practical cooling devices. Designing and decorating your own folding fan is a great way to express yourself, and add some depth and detail to a historic costume.
No sewing experience is required for this workshop. Advance registration is requested; registration includes all needed supplies for a $10 materials fee.
